Korean Traditional Village: Bukchon and Seochon

In Joseon Dynasty, Bukchon was a formerly prosperous town, traditionally the residential quarter of high-ranking government officials and nobility. On the other hand, Seochon was the place where ordinary people lived. There is a traditional market called "Tongin Market" where people used to buy and sell their stuff. Still, you can visit there and get some street food with a brass coin like in old Joseon dynasty. 
In the same sense, there are a lot of luxurious traditional Korean house which is called "Hanok". But then again, you can see a beautiful mix of the old Hanok and brick houses in Seochon but it's not luxurious. Remember, Seochon was the place where ordinary people lived. If you are a big fan of hutong in Beijing, you will love the atmosphere in Seochon which have lots of small but lovely alley. 

By the way, if you are a foreigner who is looking for something very Korean, Bukchon is the answer. Because many of human cultural assets are living and making their unique identity in Bukchon. Also, you can enjoy beautiful eight sceneries with Hanok there. But if you would like to feel an atmosphere that Joseon artist had before, you'd better go to Seochon. This is the place where famous painter Jeongsun(겸재 정선) and calligrapher Kim junghee (추사 김정희) were working for the great art. Even King Sejong was born here. The great poet Yoon dongju and Seojeongju also lived here and made great poems.
