Unhyeongung and Yanggwan - The Goblin’s house

Unhyeon Palace(雲峴宮), also known as Unhyeongung Royal Residence, is a former Korean royal residence located near Anguk station. It was formerly the residence of Prince Regent Daewon-gun(흥선대원군 이하응), ruler of Korea during the Joseon Dynasty in the 19th century, and father of Emperor Gojong (The 26th king of Joseon Dynasty). Gojong himself also lived in this residence until age 12 when he assumed the throne. It is currently a museum and is open to the public free of charge.

Considering the size, formality and ground plan, it is similar to an inner palace rather than the house of high ranking official. After the Korean war, a considerable part of the house was sold, and therefore the size of the house was considerably reduced.

Unhyeongung is the site for the last Royal wedding ceremony, a re-enactment of King Gojong and Empress Myeongseong's wedding that took place on the grounds of Unhyeongung on March 21, 1866. This reenactment takes place in the spring and fall of every year. This reenactment offers visitors an opportunity to experience the spectacular and elegant traditional royal costumes and lifestyles of the Joseon dynasty.

There is a white building with three stories behind Unhyeongung Palace. It was built in 1912 and made of stones and bricks with French Renaissance style. This palace was made for receiving the guests and made by Japanese people. All the material also came from Japan. Now, this building belongs to Duksung women's University. 


I had a blind date yesterday, and we went to this palace for taking a walk. I have no idea with what is really going on my love life. By the way, I liked to take a walk in those places like Anguk and Bukchon village. Especially the Yangguan was the house that Guardian(or Goblin) had lived in famous Korean drama. It reminds me a man who I liked before.

So.. It is clear that this blind date was failed.
